VTE prophylaxis: Key components of a hospital-wide policy

Due to the overwhelming interest in the session held on July 28, 2010, it has been decided to repeat this webinar.
Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) is one of the most common preventable causes of complications in hospitalized patients.
This one hour webinar will provide strategies for developing a hospital-wide VTE prophylaxis policy and will help healthcare organizations prepare for the new Accreditation Canada Required Organizational Practice (ROP) for VTE (effective 2011).
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- understand the importance of VTE prophylaxis in hospitalized patients
- identify which patients are at risk for VTE, and
- know what a hospital-wide thromboprophylaxis policy should include.

Lynn Riley, RN, Educator, ISMP Canada
Lynn has more than 25 years of clinical and managerial nursing experience. She has a varied background that includes staff nurse in critical care, outpatient HIV clinic cardiovascular intensive care and case management. Lynn has taught components of the critical care certificate programs at Seneca, Centennial and George Brown Colleges. She has also held a position as a national clinical educator for a home healthcare agency.
Lynn is an educator at ISMP Canada and most recently, was employed at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in the Quality and Patient Safety department and was the VTE intervention coordinator for Safer Healthcare Now! |
