Key Safeguards for Electronic Order Entry Systems

Many healthcare facilities are moving in the direction of electronic order entry systems. Although, there are many benefits to electronic order entry systems there are also particular vulnerabilities to consider when designing, implementing and converting to new systems that involve complex technology.

This one hour webinar will highlight some key vulnerabilities and associated safeguards for electronic order entry systems.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to identify:

  • system considerations (build standards, vendor limitations, downtimes, change requests, support)
  • workflow considerations (shift in practice patterns, hybrid situations and communication)
  • user considerations (engagement of frontline staff, training and education, human factors)

Audience: Pharmacists, Nurses, Physicians, Senior Leadership and IT teams involved in planning and implementation of electronic order entry systems in healthcare facilities.

Cancellation Policy
Notice of all cancellations must be provided in writing at least 7 days prior to the event. A $75 administration fee will apply to all refunds. There are no refunds for registrants who cancel after the cancellation deadline.

Registrants may postpone attendance to a future workshop however a $75 administration fee will apply if notice of postponement is received less than 7 days prior to the event.

ISMP Canada reserves the right to cancel or reschedule workshops. In the event of a cancellation, fees paid will be credited towards a future workshop, or fully refunded.

Speakers

Monique Pitre, R.Ph, B.Sc. Pharm., FCSHP
Monique is the manager of Pharmacy Clinical Informatics at the University Health Network in Toronto. Monique currently manages the development and implementation of clinical medication computerized programs for the Pharmacy Department at the University Health Network. This includes computerized physician medication order entry and the electronic medication administration record.

Kimindra Tiwana, R.Ph, B.Sc. Pharm., ACPR
Kimindra is a medication safety specialist with ISMP Canada, with ten years experience practicing pharmacy primarily in the acute care sector. In a variety of capacities, Kimindra has been involved with the conversion of paper to electronic order entry system in a number of acute care facilities. In Kimindra's current role at ISMP Canada she is involved with implementing medication reconciliation with a particular interest in discharge medication reconciliation.
