CPOE/eMAR: Measuring the Impact on Clinicians, Quality, and Safety

Toronto East General Hospital implemented CPOE and eMAR in 2009 for all Inpatients and Day Surgery patients. As part of the project, the organization engaged in a quantitative and qualitative evaluation in order to demonstrate the impact of investment in technological infrastructure to the organization’s internal and external stakeholders.
During this one hour webinar, indicators will be presented in the areas of:
- Adoption/Use
- Clinician Satisfaction
- Quality Improvements
- Medication Management/Patient Safety
Learning Objectives:
Attendees will learn about the successes and challenges from CPOE/eMAR implementation in a Community Hospital. Data will be presented to support this project as a patient safety initiative. Indicators are relatively easy to collect for other sites to implement.

PEGI L. RAPPAPORT, Chief Information Officer, Toronto East General Hospital (TEGH)
Pegi obtained her BSc and MSc in Pharmacy from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto.
She worked in the Sick Kids Pharmacy in Toronto for 11 years, in Pharmacy Management in Toronto community hospitals for 7 years and has been involved in Information Technology and Informatics since 1998. She is currently the CIO at Toronto East General Hospital.
Pegi’s informatics experience includes Pharmacy implementations, report design and development, ERP systems, and EPR systems. TEGH is in the final stages of completing a bundle of projects that will take the hospital to its goal of being 95% electronic.
Pegi is a member of Coach and HIMSS and obtained her Professional in Health Information and Management Systems certificate in 2003. She maintains an active interest in Pharmacy practice and is a registrant of the Ontario College of Pharmacists, and a Fellow of the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists.
Pegi has presented at numerous conferences and published articles on both Pharmacy and Informatics topics. She was a co-recipient of 5 peer reviewed awards.
